The Great Movie Post

Hey everybody!

I hope everybody is going well.

Apologies to people emailing me, my phone company said that I would be able to still send and receive emails on my phone, but they were wrong. So I only get half an hour on the computers at Vista Way and depending on when they are open and when I am working it tough to get on them. I will answer you eventually, so please don’t think I am rude for not answering. Well it has been an exciting couple of days for me lately. Let’s see what’s been happening.
1st Dec

After my last post I did end up going to the Magic Kingdom. I got there about 5pm and they closed at 7. But the cool thing is I can get in for free and I am here for 2 months, so I don't have to pack everything in on one day and leisurely take it all in. I'm sure you can guess where I beelined as soon as I walking into the park, that’s right the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and it was more awesome then my wildest dreams! The great thing about the rides at Disney is waiting in the queue are almost as good as the rides themselves. The waiting areas are so elaborately themed, just checking everything out is so cool. After the actual ride it spills into a Pirates merchandise store, which has everything you can by that’s related to pirates. I restrained myself like a good boy, but sure will be hitting it again with my 40% staff holiday discount!

2nd Dec Had to wake up at 6 in the morning to head to the Studios for my first day introduction. Basically we started with a 4 hour in depth tour of the Disney MGM Studios theme park, rode a few rides and got to know the ins and outs of the park. From here we had to do some really boring training exercises on the computer, snore snore. But it was here that I got to finally find out where I am working ... THE GREAT MOVIE RIDE! Basically I am a tour guide that drives a tram through a number of movie scenes recreated with animatronics actors (and some real) Look HERE for some more info on the ride. If you look at the gangster photo there, that’s my costume. After the computer training was over, we went to the costuming place and got fitted into our costumes.

3rd Dec Started at the Great Movie Ride today, had to wake up at 5 to catch the bus :(. We started off with a basic walking tour of the attraction inside and out and got to learn some interesting facts about the ride itself (Which I will share with you each post). We then had a look at what to do when controlling the line and ushering. Our trainers then took us through a show with us, showing how it was done (with a 42 page script I have to memorize eek!) Then we did a lot of the usual training stuff where things are located, procedures stuff like that which I won’t bore you with. Then went home and did some washing as I was out of clothes.

4th Dec Another 5am start to get me to work. Today was pretty cool though, started out before the park opened blocking the scene we have to do with the bandit. Its all has to be pretty tight as we are working with guns (not real, but do fire so still dangerous) and fire for this, which looks really awesome. After this we got to learn about the vehicles we have to drive. We needed to learn all the points where to shift speed, where to stop, microphone stuff and checking the vehicles on and off etc etc. But this mostly just involved driving the trams round and round and round the ride which was pretty fun. Also did a lot more procedural stuff, which there is a lot of and need to remember. Don’t start till 12 tomorrow so I get to sleep in!

Anyway I have to go as I am getting kicked off of the computer. Have fun everybody!

EDIT: Woops I forgot to give me Great Movie Ride fact of the day, well here it is:

GREAT MOVIE RIDE FUN FACT: 'Snake' the audio animatronics bandit in the western scene is actually wearing a female hat. When he was informed of this fact, he didn't take it too well and started to break down regularly.
